Bloomberg’s Telemetry Engineering Team is building out a Grand Unified Telemetry System (GUTS) that will greatly improve problem detection and speed resolution of issues impacting Bloomberg clients. We're a small, close knit team but our work provides value to the entire company. We're looking for a full stack engineer to join us and help us reach our goal.

GUTS provides better insight and analytics to our engineers and operations staff. By pulling logs and metrics from all of our software and hardware systems, GUTS provides search and visualization access to vast amounts of data. This provides us a clear picture of what’s happening and who needs to be alerted. Eventually, it will serve as the foundation for several firm wide initiatives.

This is a full end-to-end system, so you’ll need to be comfortable working with many different technologies. Some can be learned over time so motivation, drive and aptitude to learn new things quickly are important to success in this role. On any given day you might work on rules engines, time series databases, statistical analysis, web-based UIs and RESTful services. You will also utilize multiple programming languages.

We'll trust you to:

• Contribute to all aspects of the SDLC for our telemetry platform
• Develop features incrementally to add to our live platform so we are regularly delivering value to our customers
• Work with multiple "best fit for the job" technologies such as C++/Python/IPython/Jupyter, Hadoop, Hbase, Kafka and other open source software

You need to have:

• Proficiency programming in C++ or Java
• 3+ years of experience with building distributed systems
• A high level of competency with a modern scripting language (eg Python)

We'd love to see:

• Experience with web development frameworks (ex. Ember and Rails)
• Experience using open source distributed systems (and related) technologies such as Kafka, Hadoop, HBase, OpenTSDB, Parquet, Postgres, Chef, etc.
• Previous experience with large-scale data, analytics, data science or machine learning applications
