Are you a team lead looking for interesting problems to solve? Are you interested in driving the transformation of a worldwide network of 30,000 network and security devices through software automation?

Initially, we will be looking to enable Bloomberg’s application developers to apply changes to the network within hours rather than weeks through self-service. Eventually, we will want to associate network changes with the declaration of the application software being deployed in real time – a fully software controlled network.

You will lead the efforts to design and implement network provisioning and security through automation. You will be working closely with our best people in networking and security who will act as product owners. We're looking for a person that can attract and keep the best development expertise, build a strong team and lead both the team and the technology decisions in this space.

The atmosphere is exciting, vibrant and bold. We are fueled by the conviction that only the best is acceptable. Sound interesting? Keep reading!

We'll trust you to:

  • Design a system using open source and commercial systems merged with bespoke software using Python, Perl, C/C++, graph databases, visualization tools such as neo4j/D3
  • Develop first-class software to automate the provisioning and management of our networks
  • Build tools to help improve transparency of our network and security
  • As the team evolves, look more into the Software Defined Networking (SDN) space, helping to develop our pilot deployments in this area

You’ll need to have:

  • 5+ years of experience as a systems or software engineer in a UNIX/Linux environment
  • Experience leading software/systems engineers
  • Experience programming in Python, Ruby, Perl or C/C++

We'd love to see:

  • Prior experience with provisioning and management of networks
  • Experience in large-scale multi-vendor networks
  • Familiarity with open source tools in the network, systems automation and monitoring space
  • Knowledge of automation and deployment frameworks (Ansible, SaltStack, Chef, Puppet)
  • A strong understanding of operating system network stacks
  • Experience managing large-scale DHCP, DNS and IPAM environments
  • Familiarity with Web frameworks
