The Role:
Bloomberg News is seeking an experienced, dynamic journalist to cover consumer finance in New York. As mortgage rates soar, inflation marches higher and pandemic-induced stimulus ends, the consumer is facing a unique set of challenges after a decade of ultra-low interest rates also ratcheted up household debt. You will break news and chronicle how consumers and companies in the space are navigating this critical period, utilizing the breadth of Bloomberg's platforms from the terminal and BusinessWeek to Bloomberg's Wealth vertical. 
 
Drawing on a significant source base, you'll leverage contacts to track upstart financial technology firms, online lending platforms and crazes such as buy now, pay later -- with an eye on Wall Street's efforts to compete as these proliferate. We'd also expect you to deliver scoops as excesses and cracks emerge in these industries, amid deepening scrutiny from agencies like the CFPB.

We’re looking for someone with a thirst and demonstrated ability for telling rich stories with powerful anecdotes. The ideal candidate will also collaborate with other reporters on the finance team to write global scoops and insightful enterprise on the financial world more broadly.
