New York, NY

Posted Apr 27, 2022 - Requisition No. 102997

How do we describe the design challenges posed by one of the world's most important financial software ecosystems? Complex and vast, for a start. That’s what Bloomberg's UX team lives for! Solving big issues and defining the user experience for a product where billions of dollars are at stake. This is a place for passion and dedication, ideas and humility, where seriousness of purpose and a sense of humor are the fuel we run on.

We are devoted to enhancing our company's flagship software platform - the iconic Bloomberg Terminal. The scale of the Terminal is vast - much like apps in an operating system. This gives our team a wide range of challenges and endlessly diverse opportunities to explore solutions for varied user types and domains. UX Design at Bloomberg is an ongoing re-imagining of 40+ years of evolution, constantly striving to understand our customers' needs and improve their experience.

Keeping everything going smoothly is a dream team of UX skills - from interaction design to prototyping, visual design to usability analysis. Much like the user experiences we shape, our team works together seamlessly, collaborating on projects senior management deems crucial for our customers. We get kudos as the company acknowledges and affirms the value we add to the product. And always, we're scouring the world for the best talent around to keep the momentum going.

What's in it for you:

The UX team is part of the larger Bloomberg culture - and that's a good thing. Palpable without being overwhelming, the ethos here is about energy and ideas, teamwork, performance. A flat structure offers meaningful access to senior management, and fuels interaction across the entire organization. Our global headquarters in New York City reflects this decidedly un-corporate culture with a stylish, open and dynamic workspace - an inspiring user experience of its own.

We'll trust you to:

  • Work closely with UX Designers to increase the fidelity of conceptual designs/artifacts, such as paper sketches or wire-frames, into interactive prototypes
  • Help various cross-product teams ensure that the design concepts are technologically feasible as part of an iterative design life-cycle
  • Interact with visual designers, interaction designers, usability specialists, product managers, and front-end and back-end technologists

You'll need to have:

  • At least one of the following: Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in HCI, Interaction Design, Information Architecture, Visual Communication, or any design-related field. A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field is a plus OR an equivalent combination of education, and/or specialized training, and or, related professional experience
  • Meticulous attention to visual detail and a natural eye for design
  • Solid experience developing complex user interfaces within HTML 5 Development and JavaScript
  • Extensive experience with Javascript frameworks, such as AngularJS and Node.js
  • Deep understanding of UI application, framework development, and UI/UX principles
  • Familiarity with design tools such as Visio, Omnigraffle, Photoshop and Illustrator

We'd love to see:

We are interested in seeing your portfolio for this position. Ideally we would like to see a broad sample of visually interactive, transactional UI applications that you have developed.

Please upload/attach your work samples to your application. If you need some other way of showing us your work (either by emailing it, bringing it in person, or through an on-line real-time session), please apply, and we'll contact you to make arrangements to view it.
