Bloomberg’s Data Retention Team manages a complex Data backups and recovery within our world class Data Center environments. The team’s goal is to ensure stability within the Backup environment & full data recoverability of all machines. You will be handling the monitoring and troubleshooting backup issues, performing data recovery & machine maintenance requests. The team will also focus on Self-Service tools for our customers, the automation of troubleshooting issues & restores. This will be accomplished by either creating internal Scripts/Tools or developing software programs to simplify our operations. Streamlining the processes and procedures is a must to ensure scale-ability within our environments.

You’ll need to have:

  • 5-8 years of experience showing expertise levels of responsibility within the realm of Data Retention Administration Engineering
  • Expertise in using Veritas Netbackup Backup software
  • Experience Installing/Upgrading/Troubleshooting Netbackup 7.7.x
  • Experience using Storagetek SL8500 libraries
  • Experience with SLP configuration and troubleshooting (storage life-cycle policy)
  • Experience in EMC Avamar troubleshooting and administration
  • Experience Configuring and administration of NDMP Hosts and tape drives (We use Netapp/Celerra/Isilon)
  • Experience providing and automating Data Retention Administration duties
  • Strong Knowledge of UNIX/Linux/Windows (Sun Solaris and AIX)
  • Experience with interpreted languages (such as Python, Ruby, Perl) and shell scripting (ksh or bash ideal)
  • Experience with open source automation and management tool-set knowledge including Chef, Ruby, GitHub, Salt, Artifactory, and Jira to name a few
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills to build our documentation knowledgebase
  • Experience working in a 24/7 production engineering organization
  • The flexibility on work coverage & work location (Middlesex county, NJ or Orangeburg, NY)
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • The ability to multitask and work in a high pressure, fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • The ability to work independently and in a team environment under multiple deadlines
  • The ability to quickly pick up new technologies and learn new software quickly
