An exciting opportunity exists for a UNIX/Linux technician within a world-class Operations center. You will be part of a highly creative and dynamic team environment. You will work closely with various groups including system administration, application development, and network design.

Our group designs, implements, and supports operational procedures on different hardware platforms that make up the Bloomberg Computer environment. You will also be involved in special projects such as designing, testing, and implementing processes that the operations staff handles. These are shift-based opportunities which support a 24x7x365 environment and mostly night and weekend coverage.

You’ll need to have:

  • Knowledge of UNIX/Linux (Sun Solaris and AIX) as the primary discipline with a secondary baseline understanding of Microsoft Windows Servers
  • An introductory to basic level of understanding of open source tools and applications
  • The flexibility to work varying coverage hours including weekends and nights
  • Flexibility on work location and the ability to work out of Middlesex county, NJ or Orangeburg, NY on all shifts depending on the business need
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • The ability to multitask and work in a high pressure, fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • The ability to work independently and in a team environment under multiple deadlines
  • The ability to quickly pick up new technologies and translate the technology to all within working environment

We’d love to see:

  • 2-3+ years of experience in Computer Operations
  • An understanding of data centers, data communications and utilities
  • Experience providing and automating day-to-day systems administration duties
  • Shell (Bourne), Perl, or Python scripting abilities
  • Networking and Internetworking experience as an operator, engineer, or tools integrator
  • Experience administering and integrating network management systems
  • Multiple open source automation and management toolset knowledge including Chef, Ruby, GitHub, Salt, Artifactory, and Jira to name a few
  • Knowledge of SDLC processing and development
