Bloomberg runs on data. We're nearing one petabyte and growing, with no end in sight. Our data captures the who, what, when, where and why of how our clients use Bloomberg products. As the Enterprise Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence team, we are responsible for ingesting and preparing massive amounts of data for reporting, dashboards, self-service, advanced analytics and data science teams. The data will also be used to drive new businesses within Bloomberg by providing new insights.

Who are you?

A hands-on data engineer who is excited to tackle the challenges that come with large volumes of data and complex business rules. You'll help us build a hybrid platform that combines traditional warehouse technologies, MPP databases and Hadoop.

We'll trust you to:

  • Design and develop new data models
  • Build scalable, high throughput systems that process more than 10 billion data points a day
  • Work on developing and supporting technology platforms using structured ETL tools, the Hadoop stack and a variety of BI tools
  • Interact directly with users to architect and design our solutions

You need to have:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience working in Big Data environment (Hadoop, HDFS, Hive, Pig, Spark)
  • 3+ years of Java and Python development experience
  • 2+ years of SQL (Postgres, Oracle, Hive, etc.) and relational database experience
  • Experience with a structured ETL tool such as Informatica/Talend/Data Stage
  • Experience in writing unix shell scripts
  • Open to learn and adapt to Bloomberg internal technologies
