Bloomberg runs on data. Our products are fueled by powerful information. We combine data and context to paint the whole picture for our clients, around the clock – from around the world. In Data, we are responsible for delivering this data, news and analytics through innovative technology - quickly and accurately. We optimize the value of our data by combining our domain and technical expertise to make our data fit-for-purpose, timely and accurate. We apply our problem-solving skills to identify innovative workflow efficiencies and we implement technology solutions to better manage our data.

Our Team:

The Classifications team is responsible for creating and maintaining the classifications that organize companies and securities into peer groups based on similar business activities and risks. When our clients analyze peer groups, compare investment security options, or browse historical market trends, classification data is one of the most integral parts of comparing data irregularities among competitors.

We enable clients to:

  • Collect and assess the impact of global, regional, or local industry trends on a portfolio
  • Compare and report on industry sector exposures versus peers or benchmarks
  • Pinpoint industry investment opportunities across developed and emerging markets
  • Analyze sector and industry contributions to portfolio performance
  • Construct consistently defined global or regional sector-based and sector rotation strategies

The Role:

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Data Engineer to set a technical strategy to ensure quality data and improve our workflow efficiency. You will be a technical leader within the global team mentoring others as you work together to use technology to address our data challenges. You will determine where we can leverage AI, machine learning, and human-in-the-loop approaches to ensure our data is fit-for-purpose.

We’ll trust you to:

  • Analyze internal processes to find opportunities for improvement; devise and implement innovative solutions across datasets
  • Define a technical road-map using technical, product, and industry knowledge to ensure our data is meeting clients needs
  • Develop interconnected data models that enable analysis across datasets
  • Mentor technical members of the team and work together to implement the technical strategy determined
  • Communicate with both technical and non-technical partners as you determine client needs and identify technical solutions
  • Collaborate extensively with internal partners (primarily Core Product, Financial Solutions, News, and Engineering) to propose, develop and implement market leading solutions for our clients

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Quantitative Finance, or a related technical degree, preferably in combination with a Finance or Business field
  • 4+ years of programming and scripting in a production environment (Python, Javascript, etc)
  • Experience implementing Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or Natural Language Processing
  • Powerful communication and collaboration skills to work across departments and with global teams
  • Solid attention to detail and high degree of demonstrated decision-making and problem solving skills
  • Openness to change and willingness to work through challenges
  • Legal authorization to work full-time in the United States and will not require visa sponsorship now or in the future

We’d love to see:

  • Exposure to Bloomberg products such as the Bloomberg Professional Service
  • Experience implementing high volume, low-latency ETL pipelines
  • Experience working with an Agile development methodology such as Scrum
