Bloomberg is looking for an experienced editor to join its economy/government team in Brazil at a crucial time: just as the country braces for one of the most consequential presidential election in the Americas, likely to send ripples throughout the region.

The stakes for Latin America's largest economy have never been higher: after one of the most aggressive monetary tightening campaigns in the wake of the pandemic, inflation remains above 10%, hunger and poverty are surging, and so is dissatisfaction with the governing class. Whomever Brazilians choose in October to lead the country for the next four years will have to contend with a challenging political environment and a myriad of economic problems, both domestically and abroad.

You'll be joining a team of outstanding journalists covering Brazil and Latin America, a region with an endless supply of compelling political and economic stories. From civil unrest to wild swings in the political landscape, from fast-moving central banks to some of the world's highest inflation rates, it has a bit of everything -- including idiosyncratic political leaders and one of the widest, and widening, inequality gaps on the planet.

We'll trust you to work with reporters to deliver stories that look at politics and economics through the prism of business and investment, experimenting with new forms of history telling while working across platforms -- including radio, TV, Bloomberg Businessweek and Bloomberg.com, as well as social media and our podcasts.

The ideal candidate will bring our reporting to life for an international audience, be able to publish headlines and scoops with speed and accuracy and also take on longer-term analysis and enterprise projects.
An understanding of Portuguese and Spanish is essential for the job, which often entails taking the lead in writing a story that's been reported in the local language.

You'll be based in Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paulo, joining a team of reporters and editors spread across some 10 Latin American countries.

You'll need to have:

  • Have experience working in Latin America
  • Know that speed is essential in a competitive wire-service atmosphere
  • Know how to work closely with reporters and collaborate with other teams to achieve the best result
  • Be comfortable in a collaborative, dynamic, fast-moving newsroom where news can break at any time, including nights and weekends
  • Have fluency in English, Portuguese and Spanish
  •
*Resumes must be in English in order to be considered.
