With close to 40 economists and 100 economics reporters worldwide, Bloomberg has an outstanding capacity to explain where the global economy is now and where it might be heading.

Bloomberg Economics offers a comprehensive macroeconomic research service for Terminal subscribers. That includes detailed forecasts, supported by thorough and original thematic research. The economists also produce previews of major data releases and economic events as well as analysis of the numbers as they break. The goal is to offer Bloomberg clients a deeper insight into the themes that drive policy, financial markets and capital flows.
We are seeking an expert economist with experience of work at the intersection of economics, geo-politics and economic statecraft to join our research team.

THE ROLE

The successful candidate will work with Bloomberg’s chief economist and other members of the team on research projects aimed at helping our clients understand how geo-politics impacts the global economy.

Short-turnaround projects will include quick analysis of breaking news on geo-political events impacting the economy – from US sanctions on China’s access to technology to freezing Russia’s FX reserves.

Longer-term projects will include taking the lead in building data sets and models that provide a more systematic way of understanding how geo-politics, national politics, and economic statecraft impact the economy.

We’ll measure success by the breadth and depth of our analysis on this emerging area of focus for Bloomberg clients.

WE’LL TRUST YOU TO:

Take the lead in building out the teams' knowledge on the intersection of geo-politics, economics, and economic statecraft.
Develop and execute your own ideas for research projects, in addition to supporting projects from senior members of the team.
In line with experience, represent the team at client events, on Bloomberg TV and radio, and more broadly.
From time to time, work with Bloomberg’s economic reporters on projects that bring together analysis and reporting.

YOU’LL NEED TO HAVE:

  •  5+ years of proven experience in economic analysis
  •  Experience working on questions at the intersection of geo-politics, economic statecraft and the economy
  •  A graduate degree in economics (a PhD is a plus)
  •  English proficiency
  •  Energy and the initiative to provide a consistent flow of high-quality analysis.

WE’D LOVE TO SEE

  •  Advanced econometrics, experience working with trade models, or expertise in industrial policy.
  •  Experience working in an economic policy role in government or at an international institution
  •  Experience generating content across a variety of formats, ranging from rapid turnaround responses to economic events to longer-term collaborative research.

Apply if you think we're a good match. We'll get in touch to let you know that the next steps are, but in the meantime feel free to have a look at:
