Washington, DC

Posted Apr 29, 2022 - Requisition No. 103096

Bloomberg News is seeking a reporter in Washington to cover efforts by the world's biggest technology and social-media companies to shape legislation on Capitol Hill, influence Biden administration policies and avoid a crackdown by government regulators.

Top candidates will demonstrate their ability to quickly grasp complex issues -- including privacy, antitrust, technology transfer and export controls -- affecting the industry at any given moment. A knack for clearly explaining the stakes and impact of legislation and administration policy is essential.

The ideal candidate will know how to break exclusive stories based on sourcing in lobbying shops of technology companies and trade associations across Washington, as well as in other business lobbying groups, government agencies, and congressional offices. This role also includes reporting on lobbying by the chip industry and jockeying by contenders for federal cloud-computing work.

The position is based in the Bloomberg News Washington Bureau and reports to the leader of our Corporate Influence reporting team.

We'll trust you to:

  •  Break news and write enterprise stories that help our readers understand the complexities of Washington's relationship with some of the most important and recognizable companies in the world, and the challenges in regulating them.
  •  Work constructively with your colleagues on the Corporate Influence team, the Washington Bureau and Bloomberg's San Francisco-based Technology team, as well as other teams across Bloomberg News.
  •  Be flexible and creative in ways you identify and bring home stories.
  •  Be willing to work with a range of Bloomberg platforms, including Quicktake and Bloomberg Television and Radio.
  •
    You'll need to have:
  •  Reporting experience, preferably in the tech lobbying sphere.
  •  Excellent source development and interviewing skills.
  •  An ability to write quickly, concisely and accurately about complex topics under tight deadline pressure.
  •  A Bachelor's degree.
  •
If this sounds like you, apply today!
